Antigua, Caribbean (Episode #60)
We journey to the Leeward Isles, to Antigua,
the island of 365 beaches. Antigua, long known as island-host to
the worldís rich and famous is a destination proud of its heritage.
This former British colony has retained strong links to tradition
and its devotion to the English sport of cricket reaches almost
religious fervor. In recent years, investment in tourism has been
substantial, and the island has become a popular destination. In
particular its scuba diving and yachting has been a magnet for the
world's thrill seekers.
We visit Sandals Beach Resort and Spa where Executive Chef Ray Clark tells us his interesting approach to the teaching of international cuisine and then takes us into his private domain to learn one of his signature dishes.
We travel throughout the island and see historical English Bay and
Nelson's Harbor, the capital city of St.John's, and then join exclusive
private caterers The Gourmet Network as they cater a romantic champagne
luncheon for two on a secluded private island beach. Our second
featured restaurant takes us right to the beach where owner and
restaurateur Paddy Costello with Exec Chef "Ginger" has created
The Coconut Grove. This is truly a piece of paradise.
